The Wilding soundtrack was produced in partnership by the English electronic musician Jon Hopkins and Icelandic soundtrack composer Biggi Hilmars. Hopkins‘ contributions mix electronically generated and/or processed sound effects, while Hilmars tends to emphasise orchestral textures, with both occasionally collaborating and blending their sounds. Wilding’s 13 short tracks form the ambient soundtrack to a 2024 documentary film of the same name, which tells the story of the wilding of 3,500 acres of English farmland, letting land that was once intensively farmed be recolonised by its flora and fauna.
…In the six-minute-long album opening “Wilding Theme”, Hopkins electronically processes his voice to sound “like a strange kind…

…Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, and RCA Records release the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann’s EPiC: Elvis Presley in Concert, a collection of 27 recordings heard in the upcoming film, featuring updated mixes of iconic live performances alongside new remixes and medleys of classic Elvis recordings.
…A follow-up to director Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 biopic of the singer starring Austin Butler in a star-making, Golden Globe-winning turn as the late singer, EPiC is sourced from scores of long-vaulted material utilized for film research. Warner Bros. Pictures unearthed unseen footage and outtakes from Elvis’ concert documentaries That’s the Way It Is (1970) and Elvis on Tour (1972)…

Not to be confused with Stranger Things: The WSQK Collection — a fun, in-world treat from the same season — this official soundtrack for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things includes much of the same that fans have come to expect: beloved classics and forgotten throwbacks that tie neatly into the plot of the show. While there’s no big “Running Up That Hill” moment here, the mixtape feel of the track selections makes it a decent compilation. One can imagine — if one is old enough — sitting in front of a boombox with the pause and record buttons compressed, waiting for just the right moment to bridge an early Michael Jackson gem with a Tiffany smash hit. Meanwhile, ABBA, Bowie, and Iron Maiden weave seamlessly with Pixies, Butthole Surfers,…

In 1969, as Cold War tensions simmered, Jerry Goldsmith composed the score for The Chairman, a spy thriller starring Gregory Peck. Known for his genre-spanning versatility, Goldsmith had already impressed Hollywood with scores for Planet of the Apes and The Sand Pebbles. This film presented a unique challenge: blending Western orchestration with Eastern musical motifs to reflect the story’s geopolitical intrigue.
…While a soundtrack album was released concurrently with the film on the Tetragrammaton label, the album masters and film recording sessions both vanished over the years. Subsequent CD reissues were limited to rips from vinyl sources, amplifying the limited range and distortion inherit in the format. While a short mono…

A journey through the musical life of Gary Young, the subject of the SXSW-winning documentary Louder Than You Think and the wild polymath best known as the original drummer for indie royalty Pavement: from early hardcore punk and post-punk recordings to the merry chaos of Hospital, whose ‘Plant Man’ ended up being an improbable MTV favorite.
Original music created by Noah Georgeson and Edward W. Dahl is presented alongside ultra-rare Pavement live tracks and something quite special: a Gary Young-penned oddity that Gary’s old friend Scott ‘Spiral Stairs’ Kannberg turned into a suitably trippy musical track (spiced with some Stephen Malkmus feedback yowls), recorded for the movie shortly before Gary’s passing in August 2023.

John McLaughlin has one of the richest artistic legacies in modern music, not only for his unmatched technique but also for his boundless curiosity. From early masterpieces, Extrapolation and Love Devotion Surrender (with Carlos Santana), to the genre-bending invention of Mahavishnu Orchestra and the blistering acoustic explorations with Al Di Meola and Paco de Lucia, John has always sought the new and transcendent. His work seeks a profound spiritual connection. Now, he has brought his singular vision to the world of film music with his score, Music for Abandoned Heights.
Compositionally, McLaughlin poured his imagination into the film’s script, crafting a rich blend of hot fusion and pensive ballads. He describes his writing process: “In my mind I…

Pop iconoclast A. G. Cook has been the spearhead of a shift in mainstream music throughout the past decade. His (now defunct) label, the seminal PC Music, disrupted the DNA of pop music, the first domino to fall in the emergence of dozens of internet micro-genres. The Moment (The Score) marks Cook’s first solo effort since 2024’s Britpop, a post-PC Music triple disc of shiny digitised, almost indie, tracks. That record came with a multiverse of characters, timelines, even online games and bonus downloads. Like with his time at the helm of PC, Cook is surgical and intrinsic, managing to construct and curate worlds even with the most dizzying or abrasive of material.
Scoring a film is the natural step forward for someone like Cook. It’s also a surgical and…

Belgian-Caribbean composer and musician Nala Sinephro‘s first film score is for The Smashing Machine, a Benny Safdie-directed biopic about MMA fighter Mark Kerr, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the title role.
On paper, Sinephro seems like an odd choice for the job, as it doesn’t seem like there’s much of a connection between ambient spiritual jazz and extreme fighting. Regardless, Sinephro and her regular collaborators (including saxophonist/flautist Nubya Garcia and former black midi drummer Morgan Simpson) weave an intriguing instrumental backdrop for the film, issued by Warp as a 25-minute soundtrack. Most of the eight tracks are brief pieces which establish a warm glow, swirl lightly, and make their exit.

For Mona Fastvold’s film about the Shaker founder, Daniel Blumberg reworked hymns, composed songs, and led a sizable chorus to mimic speaking in tongues. It’s ambitious but ultimately overbearing.
Formed in England in the mid-1600s, the Religious Society of Friends became known for the tremors and convulsions that would overtake its members during prayer. These “quakes” were not, they believed, handed down from on high, but emerged from the inside out — a blasphemy that saw members of the fledgling sect thrown into prison or run out of town.
…In The Testament of Ann Lee, Shakers shake. Mona Fastvold’s film stars Amanda Seyfried as the founder of the religious movement…

As an original member of Magazine and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Barry Adamson is the perfect choice to compose the soundtrack for SCALA!!!
The documentary film traces the history of the infamous countercultural movie venue in King’s Cross, which from 1978-1993 attracted more than its fair share of outsiders while screening a cornucopia of niche films: horror, kung-fu, sexploitation, LGBTQ+ cinema. From sticky floors to wandering cats, live concerts to customers shagging on the floor, the venue became infamous for more than its movies.
The soundtrack is as seedy and grungy as its source material, but it is also vibrant and raw. Adamson has prepared 22 miniatures, which seem like trailer music for 22 classic indie films.

This is the soundtrack for the acclaimed Netflix documentary Cover-Up, co-directed by Laura Poitras and Mark Obenhaus centered on Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh.
The film’s subject Hersh is best known for breaking controversial stories about the US Military, particularly its actions in the Vietnam War and the Iraq War.
Rooted in analogue sound, the score for Cover-Up weaves Eurorack modular recordings, guitar feedback, typewriter samples, organ, brass, and live strings processed through tape into an evolving sonic landscape. The analogue textures converse with the film’s archival language, while the interplay between analogue and digital mediums mirrors the temporal reach of the story,…

…La-La Land Records give the expanded treatment to Hans Zimmer’s score to the 1991 hit Thelma & Louise. Directed by Ridley Scott from a screenplay by writer-director Callie Khouri (her first credit!), Thelma & Louise starred Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis as two midwestern friends whose road trip escape from their humdrum lives takes unexpected turns. The film, screened out of competition at the Cannes Film Festival, earned Oscar nods for its two leads and Scott’s direction, even winning one for the script; it also featured an early supporting role for Brad Pitt, whose smoldering turn led to his rise to the top of the Hollywood A-list.
Zimmer’s score reflected the southwestern Americana locations seen onscreen, with…

…With expanded or remastered presentations of Goldfinger, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, Moonraker, Octopussy, Licence to Kill, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day already certifying La-La Land Records as the home of definitive presentations of Bond soundtracks, there’s another one striking hard: 1965’s Thunderball, the fourth film in the series featuring a returning Sean Connery as Ian Fleming’s thrill-a-minute secret agent. Here, Bond squares off against another agent of the terrorist organization SPECTRE – the eyepatch-sporting Emilio Largo – attempting to stop SPECTRE’s plot to set off a pair of atomic bombs they stole.
If Goldfinger further codified the formula of…

Daniel Lopatin doesn’t score the Safdie brothers’ movies so much as open portals in them. In Good Time and Uncut Gems, his worship of all things kosmische created a peculiar contrast with the images on screen, drenching the brothers’ grainy tales of ’10s debauchery in the aura of an earlier time. Hospital hallways gleam with the same twilit aura of Thief; New York’s diamond district ripples with as much danger as the landscapes of Sorcerer. Lopatin isn’t recreating Blade Runner with his soundtracks as much as Risky Business, pulling us into the subconscious of the Safdies’ manic characters and submerging us in their doomed self-sabotage. When Howard Ratner hits, we don’t just resolve to a major chord — we enter the realm of the angels, with glowy flutes…

In 2009, Nick Cave published The Death of Bunny Munro, a darkly comic novel about a sex-addicted salesman. When The Death of Bunny Munro first came out, Cave and his frequent collaborator Warren Ellis scored the audiobook. Now, The Death of Bunny Munro has been adapted into a TV show, and Cave and Ellis did a completely different soundtrack for that, too.
Imagine writing a book and then making its soundtrack twice. You must feel like you’re excelling in all kinds of fields at once. Matt Smith, star of House of the Dragon and Doctor Who, is the man behind Sky Studios’ new UK TV version of The Death of Bunny Munro. Smith is both the series’ star and its executive producer.
Nick Cave does a lot of soundtrack work.
