Allen Toussaint experienced a late-career revival sparked, ironically enough, by the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He had to leave his hometown New Orleans after the hurricane, relocating to New York City where he started to play regular gigs at Joe’s Pub and, soon enough, he cut The River in Reverse with Elvis Costello. That 2006 album propelled Toussaint toward a greater audience, leading to more headlining concerts, two of which are chronicled on Rounder’s 2013 release Songbook. The Jerry Garcia Family and Round Records celebrate the 50th anniversary of Reflections, “one of Garcia’s most artistically unified statements of harmony, affirmation, and joy,” with an expanded 3xLP set for Record Store Day on April, 2026. Camper Van Beethoven’s second album II & III saw the folk-punk of the band’s debut LP morphing into an even wider array of stylistic influences and (un)ironic contradictions, all rolled up into a coherently incoherent collection of some of the band’s most defining songs.
Originally released in 1986, the follow up to Telephone Free Landslide Victory did much to develop an already iconoclastic Camper Van Beethoven idiom. The Irish grunge-pop act, fronted by Dolores O’Riordan, broke on to the scene in October 1992 with their debut single ‘Dreams’, which peaked at No 27 in the UK chart and was swiftly followed by ‘Linger’ (No 14). The singles helped their debut album Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? to (ahem) linger around the chart for over a year, eventually selling over half a million in the UK. Meanwhile, they became alt-rock stars in the US, with the album selling over five million. The new “33rd anniversary deluxe edition” comes in a variety of physical formats. Fans who already have the 2018 super deluxe edition of the album might be forgiven for feeling underwhelmed – that version added early demos, 1990’s Uncertain EP, B-sides and a disc full of live tracks and radio sessions.

Is Trixies for real? The titular ’60s London night club – filled with cutthroats, dancers, toffs, actors, musicians – is evidently a creation of Squeeze lyricist Chris Difford’s febrile imagination. But does, as the promo insists, this song cycle/musical really date from 1974, three years before Squeeze even had a record deal and Difford and Glenn Tilbrook were all but teenagers? The idea seems quite incredible, but yes, a little sleuthing reveals it to be true: there’s a fleeting reference to it in D&T’s 2004 book, Song By Song, and it’s mentioned again in Difford’s 2017 memoir, Some Fantastic Place. Originally released in 2011, Grace For Drowning is the second solo album from Steven Wilson. This Headphone Dust digital edition expands the original double-album experience with additional bonus tracks and demos, including the rare bonus material CD “The Map” originally included with the physical Grace for Drowning deluxe book edition.

Six years is a long time, about one-and-a-half generations in pop music and a fairly large chunk out of anyone’s life, two sentiments that come into play on the Beastie Boys’ sixth album, 2004’s To the 5 Boroughs. When the Beasties last delivered an album, it was in the summer of 1998 as the Clinton impeachment scandal was heating up, and just as that sordid saga closed the curtain on the swinging ’90s, Hello Nasty served as both a culmination of the New York trio’s remarkable comeback and as a capper to the alt-rock boom of the ’90s, the last album of the decade to capture what the ’90s actually felt like. Not only is the political and cultural landscape of 2004 much different than that of 1998, the Beasties are a different band in a different position.

…Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt met while studying at the University of Hull in 1981. Thorn had already formed the DIY post-punk group Marine Girls and recorded their beloved debut album Beach Party. Meanwhile, experimental singer-songwriter Watt’s debut single – ‘Cant’, produced by Kevin Coyne – was released that year on Cherry Red.
