Americana/folk musician Cory Branan is a couple of decades removed from his start in punk and metal bands, but it’s clear that the outsider swagger stayed long after he took off the Doc Martens. On his seventh album You’ll Live, the Memphis native may sing about fatherhood (“Me and Your Mom and Them”) now and then, but he’s still rocking a strong independent streak.
The album is further proof – as if it was needed – that the Branan deserves a much wider audience. “Teeny Says,” his opening salvo here, is an amped-up pop rock track with steady guitars and even steadier drumming, punctuated with organ.
