Throughout the early 2020s, singer/songwriter Rebecca Harvey made a name for herself under the music alias girlpuppy with her moody blend of midtempo indie rock, floatier dream pop, and sparer intimacy, including on her debut LP, When I’m Alone. That album was produced by Sam Acchione (Alex G, Tomberlin), mixed by Slow Pulp’s Henry Stoehr, and released on Royal Mountain Records. For the darker, heavier-textured follow-up, she adds washes of shoegaze, grungier alt-rock, and catchy 2000 indie pop/rock for her Captured Tracks label debut.

Look for Your Mind! is the 6th album from brothers Brian and Michael D’Addario, aka The Lemon Twigs, following on from their career highs of 2023’s Everything Harmony and 2024’s A Dream Is All We Know, both of which had elevated their music to a new finessed, sophisticated level. On this latest outing the formula hasn’t really changed in that the songs still have their roots in the 1960s and ’70s and arrive with a refreshed vibrancy, although there are moments where the brothers tread a fine line between authenticity and pastiche.
The first half of the album features several standout moments, some of the best of their career to date. The title track comes out of the blocks fast, the sound of 1965 guitar-pop distilled into the finest of essences. The motifs may be familiar…

For his seventh solo outing, MVD LUV, singer/songwriter Juan Wauters returned to his birthplace of Montevideo, Uruguay, to record an album in loving tribute to the place where he grew up, something he’d always wanted to do but never had a chance to before now. Wauters explains this more or less exactly over a jaunty piano on “Amor Montevideo,” the short, spoken introduction that begins the album. While in Montevideo, Wauters enlisted a crew of backing musicians and collaborators from the region, bringing elements of Uruguay’s musical heritage into his lighthearted and exuberant songwriting. This can manifest as the Spanish-sung lyrics and persistent hand drum rhythms that join woozy synthesizers on “Manejando por Pando” or as a spontaneous…
