Halloween and Clinic were made for each other – and this year there is a double celebration as the Liverpool band release their first album in five years. Now down to a duo comprising founder members Ade Blackburn and Jonathan Hartley, the masked band have always stood a distance apart from their contemporaries, dodging the spotlight while wearing their surgical masks, which were in place well before the pandemic.
Yet pigeonholing them is a mistake, for Clinic have always toyed with expectations, at their happiest exploring the macabre language of reverberant psychedelic pop and adding unpredictable, stylistic about turns.
